D-generation painting

'D-generation'

2006 40 x 40 canvas | oil | £1500

I’ve been painting for over 20 yrs.

I love painting, it’s truly were I find myself. I believe I grow as a human being when I'm in my studio creating art that’s unique and quite beautiful. I like the solitary element of working alone and the time I spend allows me to contemplate and re-evaluate.

I stated painting when I was about 13 years old. I'd like to thank my first art teacher as she was such a lovely lady and gave me the confidence to continue making Art. I turned my bedroom into a studio and started from there. I think it was due to us not having a lot of money and I realised that I could make Art to decorate my room. I then became obsessed with trying to make what ever I did the best that I can and have done ever since.

BRCA-1 Cell art series

BRCA-1 cancer cell series of paintings

The BRCA-1 cell makes women 3-5 times more likely to develop breast or ovarian cancer. This sadly has been passed through my mothers side of my family and its been horribly devastating.

The cell's structures are strangely beautiful for something so cruel. So I decided to create a series paintings based on them. The only way I could construct the pieces was by scribbling the composition because it was so complex a design.

I started to really enjoy scribbling, I enjoyed the random composition, the shapes and the energy of the pieces. I also found the challenge of using many different materials to fill in the gaps from holographic paper, to rain forest beetles fun.

The paintings are 40x40inch multi media collages based on exploring the concept and composition of scribble. Very similar to Pollocks “daring abstract work legitimized the convergence and mastery of chance, intuition, and control generating beauty and order out of seemingly random gestures”. My interest is in the anarchic composition of scribbling and the balance of structure and colour when filling in the gaps.

The curiosity arrives from the complex cubist compositions created through an instant subconscious act. The act of scribbling has become a pure form of visual expression, an immediate, spontaneous response, an action, without thought of design or composition. Scribbling becomes an act of pure mark-making channeling, an immediate response on to the canvas.

Blossom art series

Blossom series of paintings

A lot of my work is inspired by nature, I love the colour the vibrancy, the unpredictability, the wildness astounds me sometimes takes my breath away. When I paint I want people to feel rather then to think, I want to try to convey an emotion a feeling that I have when I come across something that i think is beautiful. Sometimes I close my eyes and have these amazing images that are a mixture of light and sky and feeling. This is part of the sky paintings and also why I choose to paint the blossom too.

Drawings

Drawings and sketches

I like to explode when I draw, I stare, I wait, I then just literally compose the piece, a huge amount of energy goes into them. I love to draw, you get completely lost and immersed in the process, I forget about everything and I think thats whats so great about the act of creation. The drawings are done in my classes and workshops when I have the time to allow people to get on with there own study. I like the composition and the design of them and I personally think they look great framed and I hope that you do too

All the drawings are on A1 paper and are made out of pencil and Charcoal and have been made in the years 2009-2010
